A Perfect Day

Yesterday was such a perfect day. We spent the entire day together and had so much fun. Tony was able to take the day off work and after a long tax season it was just what the doctor ordered!

Tony joined Lily and I for our usual Wednesday morning routine...swimming and a trip to the organic market. Tony hadn't had an opportunity to come to one of Lily's swimming lessons yet so it was extra special to have him there yesterday. Lily loved showing Daddy what she can do and Tony was able to capture some video of our little mermaid.

We even had fun together at the market. The cashier who helped us out very sweetly asked if Lily was adopted and if so from where. She then shared with us that she is a Korean Adoptee and told us how her family celebrates her "Arrival Day" each year. Being a "conspicuous family" has enabled us to meet so many wonderful people. Just another one of those hidden blessings that being an adoptive family has brought us.

After swimming and the market we went to the park for a picnic and to play on the playground. The weather couldn't have been more perfect...Tony even got a little sunburn. I guess I need to remember to put sunscreen on both of my babies!

After all of that we headed home for Lily's nap. As it turns out Lily wasn't the only one who got a little shut eye. Let's just say all those extra hours during tax season caught up to Daddy!

Our plan was to go to one of our favorite Chinese restaurants for dinner. We hadn't been there since we've been home and we have always loved it. That is...until last night. When we got to the restaurant we told the host that we needed a table for 3 including a highchair. In a less than friendly voice we were informed that they didn't have highchairs or booster seats. He didn't come right out and say we don't want small children here....but, he didn't need to. After we left Tony and I talked about about it and can never remember a time when we saw little children there.

So, onto Plan B. We had dinner a few doors down at a small Italian restaurant. While we were initially disappointed to not be eating Chinese food it worked out for the best. Lily loves any kind of "noonies" and the waiter and busboy who took care of us could not have been sweeter.

After dinner we headed home for dessert. I ordered a special cake for our celebration. I put a candle in it and when I brought it out to the dining room Lily starting singing, "Happy You You"...her version of Happy Birthday. It seemed fitting so we sang, "Happy You You to us". Over recent months Lily has developed quite a sweet tooth...but not so much last night. She played with her cake more than ate it and after a bite or two asked for a banana. No problem...Tony and I put quite a dent in it!

For Lily's Baptism her Godparents, Laura and Rich, bought her a beautiful silver charm bracelet. We bought Lily a round silver charm to remember our first anniversary as a family of 3. Included on the front of the charm are the words "A Date To Remember". We had "4/16/07" engraved in the center. On the back we had engraved, "One Wonderful Year".

Speaking of Laura and Rich...we could not ask for more thoughtful friends. Last Sunday Laura, Ben, and Sam were in town for a family birthday and they stopped by with a gift for Lily to celebrate our special day. Lily opened the gift last night. Check out the picture below to see all the wonderful presents. By the way guys, Lily absolutely LOVES the fans!

Lily also received a lovely surprise yesterday. Jim, Wendy, and their children (a family from our travel group) had a bear and balloons delivered to mark this special occassion. Lily was napping when the delivery arrived and squealed, "Boons!" when she saw her surprise waiting in the living room. We will be getting together with this sweet family on Sunday to celebrate the day we became of a family of 3 and they became a family twice that size!

Yesterday was truly perfect from start to finish. I hope all of our Finally A Family Days will be this special.
