A Stroll Down Memory Lane

Today we drove to Winter Harbor so Tony could see his old stomping grounds. Winter Harbor is a small fishing village where Frank, Tony's Dad, was stationed during the late 70's and early 80's.

According to Tony, Winter Harbor hasn't changed much (if at all) in the last almost 30 years. There isn't a Wal-Mart, Kohl's, or chain restaurant for miles, and miles, and miles, and miles. Honestly, I imagine there isn't anything like that for at least an hour in any direction. There is an American Flag hanging from just about every home and business and there is just the sense that this is a place that time has forgotten. It's a nice feeling!

The only change Tony noticed is that the fishing pier is now closer to his old house. In Tony's memory the pier was a 15 mile bike ride away from his house. Today when he measured it on the odometer it was more like a mile and a half. I told him not to worry...I'm sure it seems longer when you're carrying a fishing pole!

This is the town where Tony and Sheila went to school with boys named: Slugger, Tuffie, and Cookie. Tony swears these were their given names...not nicknames. We can't be sure but we think we saw those guys sitting in front of the General Store ;-)! The people in this town have made their living off the water for generations. They weren't crazy about outsiders...especially not "Navy brats"...and I doubt that has changed. The Naval base there is closed now...and I think that about sums up all the changes in the last 30 years!

I know those of you at home don't want to here this but it was really chilly here today...a high of 62! Last night the weather man said it would be in the 80's. Wrong! Tony had high hopes and dressed in shorts and short sleeves...and the poor guy froze!

Today is also Tony and my 8th wedding anniversary. We had planned to go out to dinner but Winter Harbor was a little further away then we thought. Since we didn't get back until late we decided to have leftovers at home...but, we did light some candles! Like Tony said...it might not have been our most romantic anniversary dinner...but it was definitely the cheapest!

So, I'm pretty sure this is the second year in a row that I have been reminded of your anniversary through the blog. Ok, I suck at remembering important dates - but I rock when it comes to loving you all. Now, while I hate to sound threatening but bring back the baby and nobody has to get hurt....
