American Idle

In all the years that Tony and I have been together he has yet to develop an appreciation for my unique vocal gifts. When I start to sing Tony's eyes roll back in his head and he makes this face that let's me know he's trying to find some way to pinch his ears shut from the inside.

Unfortunately for Tony I've been singing quite a lot since we received Lily's referral. You know how sometimes you get a song stuck in your head and you just can't get it out? Well, since the 9th the song "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" has been on a continuous loop in my brain.

You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you

Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that it's real
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you

I love you baby, and if it's quite all right
I need you, baby, to warm the lonely night
I love you, baby, trust in me when I say
Oh pretty, baby don't bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby, now that I've found you
Stay and let me love you, baby, let me love you.

I'm sure when Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio wrote this song and when Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons performed it they didn't have a 9 month old baby in mind....but when I hear the words I sure do!

In an attempt to keep this a family-friendly blog I wont provide any direct quotes from Tony's critiques of me singing this song. However, trust me when I say Simon Cowell could learn a thing or two from Tony!

I know the chances are slim and none that I will be the next American Idol. In fact, I think Tony and I are the only two people on earth that aren't faithful viewers of the show. However, if they ever create a show titled "American Idle" now that I could win! Ever since we received Lily's referral all I want to do is sit and look at her picture and daydream about the time when we are finally together.

Work? Grocery Shop? Laundry? Please people....don't you know I have more important things to do....like look at my sweet baby's picture and sing really bad renditions of "You're Just Too Good To Be True"?!?

TJ,

I remember all of the singing and dancing...talent shows (if thats what you call them) we put on as kids. I remember once we were even back up singers to your brother Don! Granted he was never in a real band and our only audience was our parents but that still counts doesn't it? Wow! we really believed we could sing! That is the magic of youth!

Tony may not love your singing, but I am sure Lily will adore the sound of your voice singing to her!

With many fond memories of your voice,

your cousin Laura
