When a child's birthday falls during the school year their family provides a special snack for the day. The lucky birthday boy or girl also makes and wears a special birthday crown and has a few additional privileges during the class.
After each birthday celebration this school year Lily has told me in great detail all about the fun things the birthday child was able to do. Lily loved that the special birthday person was able to be the line leader...and invite everyone to come to the snack table...and decorate a crown with colored glitter...and...and...you get the idea!
When Lily learned that today she was going to be one of the "special birthday children" I thought she was going to jump right out of her skin! Cute doesn't begin to describe her reaction.
Six children in Lily's class have summer birthdays. Since 6 families were participating we were able to provide snacks, balloons, and treat bags...I mean buckets.
Judging from the looks on the children's faces as they left school today I think they all had a great day. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera ready to capture that moment. (What was I thinking???) However, I did grab this cute shot as soon as we walked in the door.
