For quite a long time "LID 10.18.05" held a great deal of meaning for us. Whenever we spoke to another waiting family one of the first questions that was asked was, "What's your LID?". Each month when CCAA would announce referrals we would anxiously look to see what LIDs had made the cutoff and try to predict how much longer we had to wait. In March of this year the cutoff of 10.24.05 was announced and we knew we had finally made it!
Our dossier was actually sent to China in September 2005 and our agency assumed we would receive a September LID. When we did not receive an LID immediately our agency thought it was strange but had no way of knowing this was the harbinger of big wait time increases. At the time our dossier was submitted our agency told us that the wait to bring Lily home would be approximately 6 months. As we all know the wait was quite a bit longer than that. Our agency did not try to mislead us. In fact, the increased wait times impacted all agencies in all countries. Prior to October 2005, the wait times from LID to receiving your baby's referral were averaging approximately 5 - 6 months...and then something changed. What changed? Good question. I don't think we'll ever know the real answer.
Today, the wait time continues to increase exponentially. Since we received Lily's referral on March 9th of this year the CCAA has only referred dossiers with Log In Dates through November 30, 2005. That means it has taken over 6 months to go through only 6 weeks of LIDs. At this rate the wait from LID to referral will climb to well over 3 + years. There is currently an estimated backlog of 30,000 dossiers waiting to receive referrals. That means there are over 30,000 families currently waiting to meet the children they have only dreamed of...and many more than 30,000 children in orphanages and foster care waiting to meet their forever families. My heart breaks when I think of this.
We'd wait all over again!
