6 Month Follow-Up

Last night our Social Worker, Rick, came over for our 6 month post placement visit. Everything went extremely well. Rick was totally impressed with Lily and used the phrase "I'm blown away with _______ " more than once. You can fill in the blank with: how verbal Lily is, to see Lily signing, how happy Lily appears, how well adjusted, etc. Rick also mentioned how pleased he was to see the way Lily interacts with me and Tony.

It's strange. When Rick came for our 1 month post placement visit Tony and I swore that Lily knew he was here to check in on her. We felt the same way last night. It was absolutely the Lily Entertainment Hour....let me tell you our Little Miss was definitely on!

At one point during last night's visit Rick asked Tony and I how many words Lily has in her vocabulary. Neither of us had any idea (bad parents!) so I guessed 15 - 20. A little later I was sitting on the floor with my back against the sofa. Lily walked up to me put her hand on my back and said "Excuse me." Rick stopped in mid-sentence and said, "Did she just say 'excuse me'?" Okay, it comes out a little more like "sme me"...but in context you definitely know what she is saying. Anyway, Rick said he had been keeping a straw count in his head of the words Lily had used since he arrived and we had way underestimated her total vocabulary. Turns out he was right. After Rick left Tony and I sat down and actually wrote a list. Wow, we really do have a chatty little girl...just like her mommy!!

We wont see Rick again for another 6 months for what will be our third and final post placement visit.

Surprisingly, I didn't take any pictures last night during Rick's visit ;-). However, I did take some pictures today at the playground. (Yes, Patti, I took Lily to the playground again!) In case you are wondering...Lily is wearing the same outfit that she wore to the Pumpkin Carving Party. You know there are only so many days out of the year that you can wear a jack-o-latern shirt and a candy corn hair bow!

Completely off topic but I just wanted to share...today at the playground Lily noticed her shadow for the first time. It was hilarious. She had this look on her face like - what on earth is this thing that is following me everywhere!
