You Don't Say

Writing yesterday's blog about Kay-yee got me thinking...there are certain words that Lily no longer says like she used to. Instead of using Lily-ese she now pronounces them, for lack of a better word, the "right" way. Believe it or not that makes me a little bit sad!

A few words that immediately come to mind are Sadie and Thank You. When Lily first began to say Sadie she pronounced it Sassy. I loved it and so did Sadie. Well, fast forward a few months and Lily is saying Sadie as clear as a bell. I think I'll just continue to call Sadie Sassy!

Lily also now says thank you as clear as can be. It seems that the days of tank chew are long gone! Come to think of it...I can't tell you the last time I heard Me-mom-me. I've been just plain Mommy for months :-).

Don't get me wrong there are still plenty of words that Lily pronounces in her own unique way. Mary Beth describes how Lily says certain words by saying Lily sounds like a cat. For instance, when Lily says arm it sounds more like "eearm" and has the same intonation as the word meow.

Lily also wears her doat when it's dold outside. Especially when she has her doll Dory (Cory) with her. Sometimes Tony and I will accidentally call Cory Dory. When that happens Lily will look at us like, "don't you know her name is Cory?" and then holds the doll up to us and says Dory.

It shouldn't surprise me that Lily's speech is becoming clearer...she certainly gets plenty of practice! I'm telling you our little cutie is a major chatterbox. Gee, I wonder where she gets that from??? Lily starts talking the second her eyes open in the morning and has even been known to talk in her sleep!

I didn't write this entry to poke fun at how Lily pronounces certain words...actually quite the opposite. I'm writing it down because I don't want to forget the sweet little way she says things. Recently I've started to realize how quickly Lily is changing and how a little bit of Lily's "babyness" is slipping away each day.

I remember back in the 60's and 70's there was a baby doll called Chatty Cathy. Tony and I are the parents of the new and improved 2008 version of that baby doll, Loquacious Lily!

Here are a few pictures of our little sweetie doing something else she loves as much as talking...playing with her friend Lian.
